Passion…

Here is another word I like…its word that sparks a verity of different responses. Passion can mean different thinks to different people, but everyone is passionate about something. I say I am passionate about good food, and it shows…I say I am passionate about my family because I love my wife and children. But isn’t passion more…isn’t passion something that is moved from somewhere deep inside.

Passion (from the Latin patior, meaning to suffer or to endure) is an emotion of feeling very strongly about a subject. Passion often overpowers reason and other emotions, though the feeling tends to be short lived.

I find it interesting that the word passion comes from a Latin root word that means to suffer or to endure. So this makes me think passion is something that is developed over time…through suffering or enduring something we believe strongly in. In fact in Christianity the word ‘passion’ refers to what Christ endured for us on the cross.

When I look at the word from this angle I see passion as something different. I know in my life I have been ‘forgiven much’, to have Christ in my life isn’t something I take lightly…I am very passionate about the forgiveness of my sin. I would be lost without Christ; I would be carrying a load of garbage I was never intended to carry. Through Christ’s passion for me, I have passion for Christ.

This passion drives me to greater heights…this passion moves me to help others…I love this passion. So what are you passionate about? What in your life is worthy of your passion? The world around us will say you should be passionate about sex, or material things, and the list goes on and on. But all these things only last a short time…passion is so much more!

Christ, the passion of Christ…is the only thing in this world worthy of our passion…Let the passion of Christ drive everything else in your life. Do you want to love you spouse deeper…love Christ…want to love your children even deeper than you do…love Christ. The list starts and ends with Christ…the Alpha and the Omega.

Passion is paramount…misplaced passion is travesty.
