Peace

"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."' Numbers 6:24-26

This is one of my favorite blessings in the Bible.  God tells Moses these are the very words Aaron and his sons are to use when blessing the people of Israel.  The wording is great, God will bless and protect you.  He will look at you, watch over you and be gracious to you, He will hear you.  He will look at you with love and favor in His eyes. And most of all He will give you peace! 

All the things we long for as being human, God want to fulfill.  He created us and He knows what we need and what we really long for.  We all long for security.  We organize armies as nations for security.  We all want job security, housing security, food security the list goes on.  We hate when we are not sure of tomorrow in any area.  We all long for deep secure relationships.  This is all because we all long at our core—peace. Peace is what we all want and we will go to great lengths to get just a taste of peace.  The further we progress in life the more we desire peace and that is why I think many welcome death in the end.  In reality ultimate peace can only be found in God through His Son Jesus Christ. 

Lord give us peace.  We long for it in this life, especially in the turmoil that surrounds us.  Reach down and touch us with your loving hand and fill us with your life giving peace.  Amen
