Shadow of Your Wings

“Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for I take refuge in You.  I will seek refuge in the shadow of Your wings until danger passes.” ~Psalm 57:1 HCSB

King Saul has pursued David out into the desert wanting to kill him.  David has hidden himself in a cave to escape when he penned this Psalm.  He is pleading with God to be gracious to him and to gather him under the protection of His wings.  A mother hen will gather her chicks and spread her wings over them and defend them.  David is asking God to do the same.  He knows where to go in the time of danger.  When we are faced with dangers in this life where do you turn to?  Do you try to figure the way out on your own?  Until there is no way escaping and then turn to God and ask for help.

I know we could save ourselves a lot of trouble if only we would turn to God first.  He desires to protect us and watches over us.  We need to learn to trust Him from the very beginning.  When faced with a challenge, physical illness, whatever the danger may be, God can protect us.  Maybe it’s financial and it seems impossible to get around, God can help.  Money isn’t an object for Him. God does not waste an opportunity to build your faith. He will use times of trials to help build your trust in His faithfulness.  David prayed this prayer and trusted God to graciously protect him and God did.  David wrote about His delivery, for us to read about it thousands of years later.  God has not changed and we can depend on Him.  God used David situation to build David’s faith and David in turned helped others with his words.  So what are you facing?  Where have you turned?  Trust God to see you through.

Lord I thank you morning for protecting us.  I pray you would help us to turn to you first when faced with difficulties and I pray Lord you would use these trials to change our hearts. Change our hearts this morning Lord.  Lord thank you for your graciousness and thank you for your Son Jesus who makes all things possible!  Amen
