Seek

I've been pouring out my heart before the LORD.” ~1 Samuel 1:15b

Hannah was childless.  She was one of the two wives of Elkanah.  Peninnah the other wife had children and would ruthlessly taunt Hannah.  Hannah was deeply hurt and pleaded with the Lord with many tears.  She made a vow that if she was to have a son she would give him to the Lord.  While she was praying with a broken heart, pouring it out before the Lord, from the depths of her pain the Lord heard her.  The Eli the priest was sitting nearby and saw her praying.  At first he thought she was drunk with wine only to learn why she was praying.  Eli tells her, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant the petition you’ve requested from Him.”  Hannah did conceive and had a son named Samuel who would become a great man of God.

Hannah took her pain to the one person who could help her, God.  She knew the only way she was going to have a child was by the hand of God.  She pleaded, she prayed from the depths of her soul and God answered her.  What do you do when you are facing an impossible situation?  Do you try to figure out a plan and pray for God to bless the plan or do to seek the Lord with your whole heart?  Do you wait on the Lord and accept His will?  Hannah prayed every year and Scripture doesn’t say for how many years, yet year after the year Hannah prayed.

Jesus said, "So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10 HCSB)  Jesus encourages us to keep praying, to keep seeking the Lord in whatever situation you find yourself in.  What are you facing?  Are you facing an illness, a broken relationship, an addiction, financial shortfall, sin, unforgiveness?  Whatever it is that you are facing seek God, plead, knock and don’t give up.  God is building your faith and when He answers your prayer He will be glorified.  Hannah conceived a son who God used to do great things for His name.  Hannah would also have other children to the glory of the Lord, because she prayed year after year.

Lord thank you for answered prayer.  Thank you that you hear us and strengthen our faith through prayer.  Lord help us to turn to you first when we face the difficulties of life.  Help us to seek you with our whole hearts.  Lord you are to wonderful to understand, too lofty to know all your greatness.  We praise your name!  Amen
