God’s Gonna Cut You Down…

Johnny Cash is an amazing song writer…I stumbled across this song and it blew me away. So I bought the album “American V: A Hundred Highways”, the album is haunting and truly a work of art. You can hear it in his voice, he knows his time has come to go home. The songs reflect a long life lived by someone who has seen a lot, and lived life. Tucked in the first part of the album is this song “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”. When I first heard it I got goosebumps…

My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"

What a picture of a man seeking Christ…on bended knee, in the quiet moment a voice so sweet, he thought he heard the shuffling of angels feet…then the voice, the gentle whisper of Elijah, go do My will!...

Have you heard the voice before….

Christ calls us all, he wants you to hear his voice…but it will only happen when we have humbled ourselves in the quiet place of our hearts. Because you see our very nature will push us in a direction away from him. You can run on for a long time, but the day is coming when life will catch up. There is a time when we will have an answer. There is a time when God will drag all we have done into the light, for everyone to see.

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's done in the dark will be brought to the light

You can’t run from God, you can’t hide from sight. Along with the love of God, is the other side of God...jealously, righteousness and justice. What makes us think we can live our lives the way we want and not give an account for the gift.

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,The gambler,The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Listening to this album, Johnny was at the end. He had a deep relationship with Christ and he is warning us. Hear it and take it to heart, from a voice who lived.
