He is Life!

“Love the Lord your God, obey Him, and remain faithful to Him.  For He is your life” ~Deuteronomy 30:20

Moses is sharing with the people his last words with them.  He is reminding them today I have set before you a blessing and a curse.  He has urged the people to follow God with all of their hearts, do not turn to the right or the left, to stay the course.  If they do this God will bless in ways they never could have imaged.  They would become the envy of all the nations to the glory of God. But if they disobeyed God, they would become a curse and lose everything!  In this verse Moses encourages the people to obey Him, to remain faithful—for He is life!   

I don’t think we fully understand what God is in our lives.  He is life.  He created us. He provides for us and He protects us.  He has saved us from our sin, the sin which made us an enemy of God.  He took the initiative in the garden, with the people of Israel and with us.  He reached down to us. He went so far as to become one of us and lived the life you and I could never live.  He went to the cross and bore the wrath we deserved.  He went to the grave and defeated the enemy death.  By His incredible grace, we are justified and given eternal life to enjoy Him forever.  You did nothing, but believe it was all true.  God is life, without Him we are nothing, apart from Him we are nothing.  Not only does God take the initiative but He gives us a life worth living.  A life with a purpose, a full life no matter what our circumstances are. I stand amazed at our savior Jesus Christ and I praise Him!

Lord you are life!  Apart from you I am nothing, I need you.  I need you every day.  Fill my heart with your presence and let others see You in me.  Thank you Lord!  Amen.
