“But Jesus let out a loud cry and breathed His last.” ~Mark 15:37 HCSB
Jesus hung on the cross. He had spent the day being beaten, mocked and abused. His blood ran down the cross where he had been hanging for six hours. Since the very beginning this day had been planned. This day was the day on which God would have victory over sin and death. On the cross Jesus bore the wrath of a righteous God. On the cross Jesus took on our sin and left it there. He took upon Himself what we all rightly deserve. He did this joyfully “Who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross.” (Hebrews 12:2) He was taken down and buried in a tomb, guarded by Romans soldiers so that no one would steal his body. But Sunday is coming!
Jesus gave His life, shed His blood for the forgiveness of sin. He was placed in the tomb and on Sunday morning He arose. He defeated sin and death once and for all. Jesus is alive! He’s alive and I’m forgiven, He ascended into heaven and is waiting to return. Through Him I have forgiveness of sin! Through Him I have eternal life! Through Jesus Christ I am alive! I was once dead, now I am alive. All of this happens to bring glory to the Father. By enduring the cross in perfect submission to the Father so the name of Jesus is lifted above all names. “So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow-- of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth-- and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phi 2:10-11) There is no greater act of humility. No greater act of love has ever been done before or since. The name of Jesus is magnificent to the glory of God the Father. This weekend celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ! He’s alive and we serve a risen Lord, one who gives life to all of those who put their faith in Him.
Praise the name of Jesus! Who’s name is above all names! Who defeated sin and death by the shedding of blood and through the resurrection. He’s alive and I am so thankful. Lord I put my faith, all of my hope, my life in your hands! Lord help me to share you with someone today! Amen
